Cherry Wood Remains Box

This box was a request of a friend of mine. At the time of this build they had recently lost a family member and wanted a nice box to keep the cremated remains. I decided to use Cherry for the bulk of this project because I like the way the wood looks once it’s finished. I didn’t really know how to make the corner transitions so I decided to use a lighter color wood to contrast the darker cherry. I decided to use Maple on the corners and simple glue them in place. The top of the box was glue on permanently. The bottom was simply attached with wood screws, as normally these type of boxes aren’t opened frequently.

Once the entire box was built and round overs and router profiles were added, I finished the box with Tung Oil and Shellac.

I presented this box to my friend and he was very happy with the result.
